We care about our environment and our carbon footprint

We try to be as environmentally friendly as possible and have adopted the following practices

  • Double glazed windows throughout the apartment, in the bathroom thermal blinds to conserve heat loss, all curtains are lined to help reduce heat loss
  • All radiators in the rooms are thermostatically controlled – they are very efficient and can be turned up or down to suit individual guests. We ask if guests can turn the heating dial down to (frost free) if the windows are opened. The room’s heat up again very quickly once the window is shut and the heating dials turned back up to 3 or 4. If windows are opened and the heating is not turned off, the thermostat will continue to work harder, therefore wasting electricity.
  • All our waste is sorted into paper, cardboard, glass bottles and cans. We re-cycle scrap paper and use for notes
  • We only use biodegradable chlorine free cleaning product also Wash Balls saving on laundry products. We have left these in the apartment for you to use during your stay
  • We only use re-cycled paper toilet rolls
  • We use recyclable waste bin bags
  • We recycle cardboard, tins, newspapers and plastic carrier bags from the apartment. The plastic bags are used by the local Farm Shop
  • All toilet cisterns are fitted with water hippos to reduce the amount of water flushed.
  • We recycle plastic water bottles
  • We use energy saving light bulbs in as many different fittings as is safely possible
  • In bathrooms, we only use refillable soap and shampoo/shower gel which we wash thoroughly and re-fill before each new guest arrives. This cuts down on the amount of packing from miniature bottles of shower gel/shampoo and miniature soaps that we were throwing into our waste bins each week
  • We buy nearly all of our food from local suppliers and as much regional and British food as possible
  • We have fitted showers instead of baths, reducing the need to heat a tank of hot water
  • We compost vegetable/fruit waste, teabags, coffee grounds, toilet& kitchen roll tubes

You are welcome to bring your own bicycles' if you want to go out without using your car and we have maps of the Bristol to Bath Cycle Path and the Avon Cycle Path,   We also have local walks such as Foley Farm part of Avon Wildlife Trust or the more serious walkers The Mendip Way and loads of brochures with ideas of where to walk.  We would recommend you use the Brislington Park and Ride (Bristol) Bus Service or the Newbridge Park and Ride (Bath) which is 15 minutes drive from the apartment and drops guests off right in the middle of the shops in Bath or Bristol.  It is cheaper than driving and parking in Bath /Bristol and is run very efficiently.

We actively encourage wildlife in the meadow & garden providing a natural habitat nesting boxes and insect boxes and feed the birds all year. We have planted native fruit trees creating a small orchard and Native trees in a small copse; you are very welcome to plant a tree in our meadow.  We purposely leave areas such as nettles – we believe a tidy garden is a boring garden.  We use natural products in the gardens

We use the water collected in the water butt to water the greenhouses and other plants. We also use a trickle feed to water the hanging baskets

We compost all fruit and vegetable peelings and make our own compost. A small compost bin is just outside the apartment for you use, we will empty regularly. We have 6 compost bins plus a wormery

We grow as much as possibly can for our own use tomatoes, cucumber, herbs, potato’s cabbages & fruit. These can often be found in our welcome pack.
